Our Pastor

Pastor Emeritus Clyde Akers

Preacher Clyde, as he is known by so many, was saved at an early age after he and his family were reached through the bus ministry. After accepting the call to preach, he began preaching wherever he could, holding weekly services in four or five nursing homes. His passion to help people, and his strong work ethic led to him accepting the position of pastor at the Freedom Baptist Church in 1979. Preacher Clyde was able to minister to many through the bus ministry, preaching funerals, a prison ministry, and much more during his 43 years of pastoring Freedom; and only Heaven will reveal the impact he had on Lexington, Davidson County, and beyond.

Pastor Nathan Brinkley

Like his uncle, Pastor Nathan Brinkley was saved at a young age. He was raised in the Trinity Baptist Church of neighboring Mocksville under Pastor Darrell Cox. At the age of fourteen, Pastor Nathan accepted the call to preach and trained at the Trinity Baptist Bible Institute for preachers. He assisted with the youth ministry, taught Sunday School, led the youth choir, and captained a bus route in his time at TBC before coming to Freedom. In September of 2022, he married Bethany Duncan from South Carolina, the two had met in a revival at her home church in 2020; they are expecting their first child. In November of 2022, Pastor Brinkley began to fill the pulpit on the request of Preacher Clyde whose health was failing. When it became clear that he would not be able to return to the pastorate full-time, Preacher Clyde recommended, and the church accepted Preacher Nathan to take his place. Please pray for Preacher Nathan as he seeks the Lord for continued wisdom and guides the church forward.
